26th
October 2005: Please help us with our planning for OAI5 by filling out the feedback form [link removed].
23rd
October 2005: OAI4 came to a close yesterday. We hope everyone enjoyed the workshop and the
organisers wish all the participants a safe journey
home.
21st
October 2005: a mysterious and major power cut brought
the morning session to a premature end just 15 minutes
before it was due to finish anyway. Power has been
restored since coffee
time and the afternoon session is scheduled to begin
at the normal time (2pm) but starting with the last
part of the final morning presentation from Andrea
Powell.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
21st
October 2005: a successful first day ended yesterday
with a wonderful buffet reception last night (here's
some unedited photos).
The web
cast video files will be cut
into individual presentations after the workshop. For
the
moment, all the presentations between each break are
grouped
into one video and linked from the top
of the agenda and from the first talk in each session.
19th
October 2005: OAI4 is about to start! Watch
the webcasts of the presentations from CERN's main
auditorium
starting around 13:30 on Thursday 20th October.
Video
files will become available by the side of each
talk
in the agenda approximately
5 minutes after that talk has ended.
30th
September 2005: Breakout groups announced! Read more
details and sign up.
23rd
September 2005: New Saturday social events are announced: a tour of Geneva old town and traditional
Swiss evening meal. Sign up by using the email link for each event.
31st
August 2005: Decisions concerning all submissions have now been communicated. We hope to announce
details of the breakout groups at the end of September.
The agenda has been finalised.
11th
July 2005: We have started to contact authors concerning
programme decisions. Please be patient - this might
take a few days.
6th
July 2005: Decisions concerning abstract submissions
are more or less finalised. Authors should hear news
in the next few days.
6th July 2005: The web pages containing arrival notes, information for participants
having arrived at CERN and instructions for registering
laptops are now updated. Follow the links from the
left-hand menu.
8th
June 2005: We are extremely saddened to hear of the
untimely death of Dr T.B. Rajashekar. His attendance
at previous OAI Workshops is
remembered
with affection. He was
very
enthusiastic about Open Access and energetic in his
commitment. We are all very sorry that
we will not now see him at
our forthcoming
Workshop in October. It is thanks to the championship
of Open Access by colleagues such as Dr Rajashekar
that
institutions and consortia across the globe are openly
endorsing the Open Access movement.
1st
June 2005: The abstract submission option has now been closed. The programme committee are deliberating and
hope to
announce
additions to the agenda at the end of the month.
4th
May 2005: Registration and call for contributions are now open.
Keep up to date with
who's coming by checking out the list of registrants.
20th
April 2005: You are warmly invited to attend the CERN Workshop
on Innovations in Scholarly
Communication (OAI4) organised by LIBER, CERN, SPARC
and SPARC Europe, OSI, and the OAi . This fourth
workshop
in
the
series, which began life as the Open Archives Initiative
Workshop in 2001, is a forum for technical issues
associated with scholarly communication.
Registration for attending
the workshop will open from 2nd May (follow the
link in the side menu bar). The cost of attending
is 200CHF
which
should be paid on arrival at CERN. This includes
a welcome buffet dinner and coffee breaks during
the workshop. Attendees should pay their
own travel, accommodation and other living expenses.
No bursaries
are available from the organisers. Those requiring
a visa to enter Switzerland should make their own
arrangements
with
their local
Swiss embassy; letters confirming workshop registration
for accepted participants are available
on request but CERN cannot issue invitations.
As for OAI3 last year,
a selection of optional tutorials are offered during
the first
morning with limited places. Registration
for these is also required (using the registration
form) but there is no extra fee.
For the first time,
a call for contributions is being made and a poster
session will be held during the workshop. Due to
the growing community it is impossible for the
organising
committee to be aware of all the great work around
the world. So, a number of slots have been made available
during the workshop for submitted contributions.
If you would like to come and share your work or
ideas
with
everyone,
please
submit
an
abstract summarising your project for consideration
as a presentation, as a breakout discussion group,
or simply as a poster. Decisions about the final
agenda should be made by the end
of June.
OAI4
will
be held
at
CERN
in Geneva,
Switzerland
from the
20th
to the
22nd October 2005. |
