Travelling by Plane

Geneva International Airport at Cointrin.

Many low cost flights connect Geneva to other European countries.

Taxi - (rather expensive, approximately 35 CHF from the Airport). Recommended for heavy luggage!

Bus - links from the bus numbers in the following text give a route plan which can be clicked to view the full timetable; selecting the starting location gives a timetable specific to that location.

  • Take the number 28 bus from outside the airport exit (round the corner of the building from the stop you can initially see). At the stop “Hôpital de la Tour” take the number 9 bus marked "9 CERN" to its terminus at the CERN entrance.
  • Alternatively, take the bus number 10 from outside the airport to Bouchet. From Bouchet take the number 9 bus marked "9 CERN" to its terminus at the CERN entrance.

Do not confuse the number 9 bus to CERN with the bus 9 to Zimeysa.
Ticket costs 3.00 CHF (main button circled in red on the ticket machine, available at each bus stop with Swiss coins or with Euros: 0,10 - 0,20 - 0,50 - 1 and 2 Euros) (3.00 CHF are equivalent to 2.00 Euros).

Travelling by Car [Top]

Coming from the Swiss side:
Follow "Aeroport", "Lyon" or "Meyrin". When in Meyrin head for "St. Genis" (which is just across the border in France). Before you get to St. Genis, CERN is on the left hand side of the "route de Meyrin", just before the border crossing.

Coming from the French side (Ain):
Follow "Gex" or "St. Genis". When in St. Genis head for the border. CERN is on your right hand side immediately after the border crossing.

An interactive map of Geneva or http://www.mappy.ch/ can help you find your way.
